More than the places.
This private Java overland tour connects the island’s better-known sights with time in smaller towns, highland landscapes and the places our local team calls home.
Begin in Jakarta, spend time in Bandung and Garut, and pause on the coast at Pangandaran. Continue towards Yogyakarta and the hills of Central Java before travelling through East Java and finishing in Bali. Each chapter has room for your interests, whether that means another village walk, a gentler morning or a longer stay.
The route below is an invitation, not a fixed departure. We match the travel days, hotels and experiences to your party, then send you a clear proposal before you decide.
West Java, personally
Time in Garut with options for Papandayan, lakeside scenery and local food.
More than monuments
Make space for city neighbourhoods, craft encounters and your own discoveries.
A route with breathing room
Multi-night stays and a planned rail segment balance the longer road days.
End with room to exhale
Finish in Sanur, or reshape the Bali chapter around the stay you have in mind.

Eighteen days.
Entirely your own.
Suggested land programme from arrival in Jakarta to departure from Bali. Tap a day to see the plan. Transport, admissions and optional experiences are detailed in your personal quotation.
01DAY 1 · JakartaA gentle beginning+
Arrive in Jakarta and meet your arrival driver. Settle into your hotel before easing into the journey. If your flight schedule leaves time, we can suggest a short neighbourhood walk or an early dinner.
Plan thoughtfully. Arrival arrangements follow your confirmed flight. An additional night can be added for a slower start.
Overnight: Jakarta02DAY 2 · Jakarta → BandungFrom the capital to the highlands+
Continue to Bandung by a suitable rail connection or private road transfer, selected when your route is confirmed. After hotel check-in, take an easy introduction to the city around Braga and its café-lined streets.
Plan thoughtfully. Rail services, class and station transfers are confirmed with the proposal. Your road vehicle may change after a rail journey.
Overnight: Bandung03DAY 3 · BandungTea country, at your pace+
Leave room for a day in the highlands around Bandung. We can shape the outing around tea landscapes, scenic stops and a local lunch, with the specific area chosen to keep the day realistic for your hotel location.
Plan thoughtfully. Choose a gentle scenic day or a more active programme. Weekend traffic can affect the route.
Overnight: Bandung04DAY 4 · Bandung → GarutLakes, heritage and a local welcome+
Travel towards Garut, Javajivi’s home region. A Cangkuang stop can bring together lakeside scenery, a short crossing and a village visit before you continue to your accommodation. Settle in for two nights without rushing onward.
Plan thoughtfully. The final sequence depends on departure time, local conditions and your preferred activities.
Overnight: Garut05DAY 5 · GarutPapandayan or a softer countryside day+
Build today around Mount Papandayan with a local mountain team, or choose a gentler day of countryside and local food. The walking route is matched to your group; volcanic scenery and the Dead Forest are possible highlights when access allows.
Plan thoughtfully. Papandayan is an optional, separately specified experience. Walking, access and weather conditions are reviewed before departure.
Overnight: Garut06DAY 6 · Garut → PangandaranAcross West Java to the coast+
Continue towards the south coast with breaks arranged around the journey. Arrive in Pangandaran, check in and leave the late afternoon open for a seaside walk or a quiet meal together.
Plan thoughtfully. This is a road-travel day. We allow time for traffic and comfort stops rather than promising a fixed arrival hour.
Overnight: Pangandaran07DAY 7 · PangandaranA day between coast and green waterways+
Choose how active you want to be. Explore the coast and local scenery, or ask us to add a guided reserve visit or Green Canyon outing. Keep space for time by the sea and an unhurried evening.
Plan thoughtfully. Reserve visits, boats and water activities are optional unless listed in your quotation. Water activities depend on local conditions.
Overnight: Pangandaran08DAY 8 · Pangandaran → YogyakartaWatch Java pass by+
Transfer to a suitable railway station, with Banjar considered during planning, and continue by train towards Yogyakarta. Your arrival transfer brings you to your hotel for a three-night stay.
Plan thoughtfully. The actual station, service, class and departure time are confirmed before booking; this is not a published train timetable.
Overnight: Yogyakarta09DAY 9 · YogyakartaMake room for the great temples+
Plan a temple-focused day around Borobudur, Prambanan, or a carefully paced combination. We help you choose the visits that matter to you and explain the difference between site access and any separately controlled upper-level access.
Plan thoughtfully. Temple tickets and visit slots are subject to availability. The written proposal specifies each site and ticket category.
Overnight: Yogyakarta10DAY 10 · YogyakartaCulture, craft and an afternoon of your own+
Spend the day with the city’s quieter details: a local neighbourhood, a craft encounter, regional flavours, or time around the historic centre. Leave the afternoon flexible for shopping, a café stop, or simply enjoying your accommodation.
Plan thoughtfully. A private local guide can be arranged for the agreed programme. Tell us your preferred language and interests.
Overnight: Yogyakarta11DAY 11 · Yogyakarta → Solo → TawangmanguFrom city stories to a cooler hillside stay+
Continue east with a possible cultural stop around Solo before heading towards Tawangmangu. Depending on your pace and access, we can discuss a temple or village stop in the Lawu area.
Plan thoughtfully. This day is tailored to your group. Longer walks or additional visits may require an extra night.
Overnight: Tawangmangu12DAY 12 · Tawangmangu → Batu / MalangAn overland chapter through East Java+
After breakfast, continue to the Batu or Malang area. Break the road journey with practical stops and settle into your selected hotel. The evening is yours to rest or enjoy a relaxed dinner.
Plan thoughtfully. Your hotel location is selected for the next day’s interests. This is one of the longer transfer days.
Overnight: Batu / Malang13DAY 13 · Batu / MalangA breathing space in the journey+
Keep today flexible. Choose an easy local outing, a food-focused introduction, or a day at your accommodation. Families can ask for a programme with fewer stops and more room to rest between the next travel days.
Plan thoughtfully. Tumpak Sewu can be discussed as a route extension; it is not automatically added to this rest day.
Overnight: Batu / Malang14DAY 14 · Batu / Malang → Bromo areaSettle closer to the volcanic landscape+
Travel towards your selected base near the Bromo area. Arrive with time to prepare for an optional early-morning excursion, or simply enjoy the change of landscape and an early night.
Plan thoughtfully. Accommodation and approach route are matched to the agreed programme. Cooler-weather clothing is recommended for an early start.
Overnight: Bromo area15DAY 15 · Bromo area → KalibaruAn optional sunrise, then onward east+
If included in your confirmed plan, begin with a Bromo sunrise excursion by local jeep. Afterwards, continue east towards Kalibaru with breaks along the way. Prefer to avoid a dawn start? We can redesign this section.
Plan thoughtfully. Bromo access, jeep arrangements, admission and viewpoints are specified in your quote and remain subject to official conditions. This is a long travel day.
Overnight: Kalibaru16DAY 16 · Kalibaru → BaliA plantation morning and an island crossing+
When the schedule allows, start with a short plantation visit before continuing towards the Java–Bali ferry crossing. Meet the arrangements on the Bali side and continue to your selected stay in Sanur.
Plan thoughtfully. Ferry operations and traffic influence arrival time. Vehicles and drivers may change at the crossing. Java and Bali use different local time zones.
Overnight: Sanur, Bali17DAY 17 · BaliLet the journey settle+
Enjoy a free day in Bali. Spend it at your own pace, add a short cultural outing, or extend the island stay with more nights in Sanur, Ubud or another area suited to your interests.
Plan thoughtfully. Optional Bali outings and additional nights are quoted separately. The itinerary can finish elsewhere on the island.
Overnight: Sanur, Bali18DAY 18 · Bali departureOne last morning, then your onward journey+
Your final day follows your onward flight. A departure transfer can be arranged from your selected Bali accommodation. If your flight is late, ask about an extra hotel night or day-use availability.
Plan thoughtfully. International flights are not part of this land itinerary. Final transfer timing is reconfirmed with your flight details.

A few answers
before we begin.
Is this a private tour or a group departure?+
This is a private journey for your own travelling party. Dates, pace, accommodation and activities are planned around you. You will not be placed on a scheduled group departure.
Does the 18-day itinerary include international flights?+
No. The sample counts 18 land days from arrival in Jakarta to departure from Bali, with 17 nights. International travel days are additional. We can adapt the plan to a 20-day door-to-door holiday or another duration.
How much does a Java and Bali private tour cost?+
The price depends on dates, party size, room configuration, hotel choices, transport and activities. Send your plans for a personalised quotation with a clear list of inclusions and exclusions. No fixed package price is displayed here.
Is the itinerary suitable for couples and families?+
Yes, the pace and activities can be adapted for couples, families and small groups. Tell us the ages of children and any mobility or comfort needs. Volcano walks and dawn excursions are optional and can be replaced with easier days.
Will we keep the same car and driver throughout?+
The transport plan may combine private vehicles, rail and ferry services. Drivers and vehicles can change between regions or after a rail or ferry segment. Your proposal explains the handovers and arrival arrangements.
Are Papandayan, Bromo and other excursions included?+
Only activities explicitly listed in your confirmed proposal are included. We specify the guide, entrance category, jeep or boat arrangements and any restrictions for each booked experience.
Can we shorten the trip or add Ijen and more Bali time?+
Yes. This is a suggested route, not a fixed departure. We can shorten sections or add nights for Ijen, a waterfall excursion or a longer Bali stay. Additional activities depend on the route, fitness and official access conditions.
How do we confirm the booking?+
First send your preferred dates, party details and priorities. We prepare a proposal for you to review. Accommodation, activities, payment and cancellation terms are confirmed in writing before you commit.
